Composition for Seven Pianos

Composition for Seven Pianos, 2018

Installation/Sound work for Ten Different Things (Living Labs & City Studio)

Robson Square, Vancouver, B.C.

Composition for Seven Pianos is a temporary installation situated within a public site in downtown Vancouver. Using seven pianos posted for free on Craigslist, a circle is formed with the keyboards facing outwards. The audience is invited to gather inside of the circle to experience the visual composition while listening to musical compositions created by passerby players. One day of the installation featured the work of composer Robyn Jacob as performed by 7 players.
The distance between people and their surroundings can create an interesting visual rendering of invisible interactions. The interactive nature of the instrument forms an ever-changing time based pattern on top of the circular static composition.
